Ovral G: An effective option to prevent pregnancy
Ovral G is a type of low-dose ECP (Emergency Contraceptive Pill) that can also be used to prevent pregnancy. Ovral G dose is taken after an unprotected intercourse or in case of a suspected failure of birth control measure (like a broken condom, a missed dose of daily morning pill). Ovral G seems to be the most effective when taken as early as possible after an unsafe sex, but can be used up to 5 days (or 120 hours) to prevent pregnancy.

Ovral G: Working Mechanism
Ovral G contains the two hormones: estrogen and progestin. The mechanism on which Ovral G works is based on the following steps:
- Prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg
- By thickening the cervical mucus, it also stops the sperm from penetrating into the uterus
- Ovral G also prevents the meeting of the sperm and the eggs, thus preventing fertilization
- It also prevents the egg implantation in the uterine lining.
Ovral G works best when taken as quickly as possible after an unprotected sex. The sooner, the better. The later, the higher will be the chances of risks.
Ovral G: Dosage Format
To achieve maximum effectiveness and rate of success, it must be taken exactly as directed and as early as possible only in case of an unsafe intercourse or a missed pill (i.e. in cases of a possibility of ovulation).
But the same when taken as a regular birth control pill should be taken at the same time every day for 21 consecutive days, beginning on the first day of the menstrual cycle and then discontinued for a week (7 days).
Ovral G Schedule as a regular birth control pill: "21 days on -7 days off" in a menstrual cycle of 28 days. Ovral G doesn't protect one from HIV or any other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Ovral G : Precautions/ Restrictions
Ovral G interacts with certain medicines that prevent its effective working against birth control that should be strictly avoided during the medication of Ovral G. Avoid anticonvulsants, barbiturates, anti-infectives, and antibiotics during the course of Ovral G to prevent one from Ovral G side effects and ensure its effective working.
Ovral G - Side Effects
Ovral G has very rare and minor side effects which include: mild headaches, nausea, vomiting, irregular bleeding, and breast tenderness. But if Ovral G is taken according to the pill directions or as recommended by a specialist, the chances of occurrence of such side effects are minimal.
